My mom often sees things she likes when out shopping, but she doesn't buy them. Sometimes this is logical - she has a lot of stuff. But other times her reason is this: she doesn't know where she would put the painting / table / bowl / whatever. Her house in Arizona was new, big, and empty, but she would say she didn't know where something would be placed. Nuts, right? If you like something and you have an empty house, you will figure out where it will go.

In one day, actually minutes apart, I received two really fun emails. These readers had vintage or scrap items they no longer wanted. Neither was going to landfill the item, and both wanted to find a good home for their stuff.

A reader from Kansas City posed the following Q: Where should I donate my wrought iron railing?

Rules, rules, rules. Do you ever feel your life is littered with ridiculous rules? Don't use the chainsaw when you're drunk. Watch out for power lines. Don't flush your alligator down the toilet. Honestly, it's like we're living in a prison state.

This is a repeat - two recent articles got me thinking about white versus color! Check out this post on Houzz. What do you think of the first house shown - the turquoise one? Now check out these rooms in an Apartment Therapy post. What do you think of the color??

I am perplexed by many things in life. Probably number one would be Saran Wrap. That stuff is just weird. If aliens land here and happen to see the Saran Wrap, God knows what they'll think of us. I'm perplexed by the popularity of Michael Bay films. Also, I'm really stuck on men's neckties. Why are they still being worn? Why? Pantyhose falls into the same category.

And, I'm perplexed by the color white.

Do you ever wonder how I hear about random salvage and scrap places around town? Probably not. Do you care? No? Too bad!

And I'm in love. Just like that. I just discovered a new (to me) scrap yard. An awesome scrap yard. Hence the love.

I really really love chain - all chain. Big, little, old - plus new chain has its place. Small chains are easy to use. Combine them with an S hook to hang paintings, clothes, any type of display. But what about the really big chain? Seriously large chain - so big it's hard to lift. What the heck do you do with that if you happen across it?

I like to check stuff out. Read about a scrapyard, take a drive to check it out. If a shark has to keep moving or die, maybe humans need to keep inquiring or end up a russet potato on the couch. Not a cute little fingerling potato, but one of those Idaho spuds with all the eyes.

Do you have an area or topic that you consider your specialty? More than just a passing interest - you know, something you really know a lot about and maybe are super passionate about. It could be anything: pest control, breast feeding, Honey Boo Boo.
